Removing the game from your phone isn’t enough as you probably still have the application installed on Facebook. Candy Crush players can send you requests at any time, and if you don’t entirely remove yourself from the game, they won’t know not to continue sending you the requests.

The simplest way to avoid the troublesome requests is to block the Candy Crush Saga app on Facebook. Sign into your Facebook account using your browser and select the small cog icon in the top-right corner to drop down a menu. Here, select Account Settings.

Now, on the left-hand side of the page, select Blocking. This will present you with five different types of blocks you can place on your account. The bottom one is for blocking apps, and here you can prevent any chosen app from being able to contact you or access your information.

To add Candy Crush Saga to the list, start typing the name of the app into the box next to ‘Block apps’. You’ll then be able to select the app you want from a drop-down list of apps matching what you’ve typed so far.

When you’ve done this, Candy Crush Saga will show up in a list of blocked apps. If you want to unblock the app at a later stage and resume playing, you can click the ‘unblock’ link next to your chosen app. Alternatively, if you want to turn off the notifications without blocking the app,

you can wait until you receive one, then hover your cursor over the notification.

If you’ve ever been chatting on Facebook from your browser and sent a message or attachment to the wrong person, or simply wished you hadn’t sent it in the first place, you can remove it without deleting your entire conversation.

You’ll need to be viewing the full conversation to start with, so if you’re chatting in a pop-up conversation window, click the gear wheel towards the top right of the pop-up and select ‘See Full Conversation’. Otherwise, you can click the Messages link in your favourites to enter your inbox as normal and click on the conversation containing the messages you want to delete.

With the relevant conversation selected, click on the Actions button at the top right and the select ‘Delete Messages’. This will place a checkbox next to each message in the conversation. Now click the box next to any messages you wish to delete and press the Delete button at the bottom of the page.

Facebook will now give you one last chance to cancel the operation if you’re not sure you’ve selected the right messages. If you’re sure, go ahead and click the ‘Delete messages’ button to permanently remove all selected messages.

Enabling two-factor authentication for your Facebook account is a snap. Log into Facebook, click the blue gear icon, then click Account Settings. Select the Security option in the navigation bar on the left side of the screen, click Login Approvals under Security Settings, and tick the box next to ‘Require a security code to access my account from unknown browsers’. Facebook will guide you the rest of the way, explaining how to receive a unique alphanumeric code to enter when you want to log in.

To get that code you must download a mobile authenticator app (which generates codes each time you log in) or give Facebook your mobile phone number so it can send you authentication codes via SMS. We prefer the authenticator app: it’s simple to use and you don’t have to wait for Facebook’s servers to text you the code. You can also add a mobile phone number as a backup.

In its mobile app, Facebook includes a neat Code Generator feature that generates time-based one-time password (TOTP) codes for your account, but you can use any TOTP authenticator app if you’re willing to subvert Facebook’s setup process. If you use Google’s mobile authenticator app to manage two-factor authentication across multiple services, for example, you can set it up to provide authenticator codes for your Facebook account, too.

To start the Code Generator setup process, click ‘Set up Code Generator’ under Login Approvals in your Facebook security settings. When the time comes to open the Facebook mobile app, click the ‘Having trouble?’ link. Facebook will ask you to click a Get Key button and enter the provided 16-character key – but you can enter that key into almost any authenticator app.

The order of posts displayed in Top Stories view depends on many factors, including how often you interact with a particular friend and the comment activity on particular posts. The idea being that in

Top Stories view, posts of most relevance or interest to you will always be at the top of your news feed. Facebook uses some unknown algorithm to determine when you should see Top Stories view and when Most Recent will be displayed – and that can indeed be very annoying. Just as annoying is the fact that there’s no simple option in Facebook to fix the view one way or the other. Fortunately, there is a workaround that involves adding a tiny bit of code to the end of the normal Facebook website address. In your web browser’saddress bar, type

www.facebook.com/?sk=h_chr – the‘/?sk=h_chr, the bit at the end tells Facebook to always

display your news feed in chronological order (meaning Most Recent view). Bookmark this page and use it to visit Facebook in future.

 Facebook is one of those services that most of us check regularly in fact it can easily become an addiction that leaves you panicking when you can't access the site. Facebook offline oStream (bit.ly/fboffline) is an Android app that automatically synchronises the most important Facebook content on your smartphone, so it's always available. It's designed to be a very lightweight Facebook client, so not all features are available, but you can interact with your profile, groups and pages, and leave comments even if you're offline they'll be posted as soon as a connection is detected. However, you can't read and write messages offline.

Facebook, by its very nature, stores an astonishing amount of information about you all your posts, likes, shares, photos, events you’ve been to and more. It’s one thing to browse this via your own Facebook page, but to get the full picture of how much data Facebook has about you, you can download the whole lot as one big archive.

To do this, log into your account, click the small down arrow in the top-right corner and choose Settings. Select the option to ‘Download a copy of your Facebook data’, click Start My Archive, then re-enter your password when prompted and click Start My Archive again. As with Google, you’ll be sent an email to tell you when your archive is ready. Download the file from the link provided as soon as you can (because the link is only valid for a few days) and enter your password again when asked. Unzip the archive and double click the Index file to browse all your Facebook data. Scary, isn’t it?

With Facebook content – your Likes and comments being channelled into feed apps and read by more and more people each day, getting your privacy settings right is absolutely crucial. Otherwise you might find that you are broadcasting everything you’re doing on Facebook, from videos you’ve Liked to levels you’ve completed on games that have access to your account, to not just your friends but even people who have found your page by googling you.

The good news is that it’s really easy to sort things out so that only your friends know what you’re up to, or even to restrict things further by limiting certain parts of your Facebook content to specific circles of friends, colleagues and other people you’re connected with. You can access these same settings through Facebook on your Mac or iPad, but for now, grab your iPhone and read on through the next nine simple steps we’ve put together for you to get some peace of mind.

You can easily delete images which you have shared on Facebook with just a few steps. However, they are still haven’t completely disappeared from your account. You can delete them fully by removing the photos from your timeline. To do this, open your profile page and select “Photos” from the menu bar. Switch to “My Photos”. If you go to an image from there, a button with a pen appears on the upper right corner. After clicking on it once, you will see the option “Delete this photo”. Then as soon as you click on “Confirm”, the photo is eliminated from your profile. Repeat this process for all other images.

Photos in which you have been tagged and the ones which are not uploaded by you can be found under the “Photos of you” category. To remove the tag, follow the same procedure as the deletion of photos. If an image has not been uploaded by you, it does not appear on your timeline and you cannot delete it. If you are seen in another person’s photo, you can only remove the tag (if available). Furthermore, you can always request the owner to take down the image.

If you’re worried about your Facebook friends posting embarrassing or incriminating photos of you, track down the evidence through your Activity Log.

To access this, click the Privacy Shortcuts (padlock) icon in, the top-right corner of every page, choose ‘Who can see my stuff?’ and select Use Activity Log. Click the ‘Photos of You’ link in the left-hand column to view every Facebook picture you’ve been tagged in. Hover your mouse over the Friends icon next to a photo to discover exactly who can see it. To hide the picture from your friends, click the pencil icon and choose ‘Hidden from timeline’. To delete it from Facebook altogether, or at least stop it identifying you, select ‘Report/ Remove tag’ and follow the ‘What would you like to happen?’ instructions.

You can prevent further tagged photos of you from appearing in your Timeline by going to Account Settings,‘Timeline and Tagging’ and clicking the Edit link next to ‘Review posts friends tag you in before they appear on your timeline?’. Choose Enabled from the drop-down menu and you’ll now be asked to approve posts you’re tagged in (although they’ll still appear in other people’s feeds). Alternatively, change the setting for ‘Who can see posts you’ve been tagged in on your timeline?’ to ‘Only me’.

Linking your contacts with Facebook can be handy, but it can be frustrating, too. Often, you’ll find that some didn’t sync automatically, that you now have duplicate contacts because the names don’t quite match, or that your contacts book is overflowing with the details of Facebook friends you didn’t know you had. Thankfully, there is a way to manually link or unlink contacts with Facebook on Android, and here we show you how.

If in your contacts book you can’t see any linked Facebook contacts, you’ll first need to go to the phone app, tap contacts, and then tap more. Next, click accounts, and if you’ve got the Facebook app installed on your smartphone and are logged in, you should see Facebook there as an option. Tap it, and then check whether you’ve turned Sync Contacts on. If not, you’ll want to turn it on now. It’ll take a moment to sync. Now go back to your contacts book and you’ll find lots of new contacts, all of which have been imported from Facebook. Not all of them will have phone numbers but many will have email addresses at least, and they should also have profile images. Finally, tap Merge duplicate contacts in the Phone app’s Settings menu to clean your contacts book up a bit. Still not working? If you just want to delete some of the contacts that are showing up, go through your contacts book and tap and hold on a contact you don’t want to see, then tap delete.

Annoyingly, though, manually merging and linking your contacts with their Facebook profiles has been difficult since Android 4.0. It’s not ideal, but the best solution we’ve found comes from a thirdparty app. There are several options, but the best one we’ve found so far that’s free and works well is Sync.Me (tinyurl.com/qjnm4yn). This lets you match Facebook contacts with contacts already stored on your smartphone. It’s less picky than the built-in Facebook sync tool, and lets you manually choose which contacts match with which Facebook profile. If you find that a contact is matched with the incorrect profile, tap on it within the Sync.Me app, tap Wrong Profile and browse Facebook to find the one that matches. Any contacts that Sync.Me isn’t sure about will show on the Solve Matches page. Simply tap the contact’s name, and then tap the profile in the ‘Suggestions’ section that matches, or click Facebook to manually browse your contacts to find the right person. When you’ve finished, tap Done and the app will sync all of your contacts. You might find that some contacts still haven’t synced, particularly if you’ve listed that contact in your phone book with a nickname, or perhaps simply Mum or Dad, for example. To fix that, go into the Sync.Me app, tap on the relevant contact, and then tap the plus icon beneath Facebook. You can now find that person’s profile and manually sync it.

If you’ve already synced from Facebook using the method described earlier, you may find that hundreds of Facebook contacts you don’t want on your phone will still be showing up. To delete them all at once without getting rid of the Sync.Me contacts and the contacts you’ve imported from other accounts, go to Contacts, tap Menu, then tap Accounts. Tap on Facebook and then on Remove account. If you change your mind, you can go back to this page, tap Add account and then choose Facebook.

To connect social accounts to your Outlook.com account, click your photo in the top-right corer, select ‘Edit profile’, then click Connect. You can connect your Facebook, Twitter. LinkedIn, Flickr and Google accounts. If you’d rather connect social accounts with Outlook 2003, 2007 or 2010, download Microsoft’s Outlook Social Connector (http://tinyurl.com/a5glx8v). Facebook is shown as the default, but you can also connect to Linkedin, Windows Live Messenger, Viadeo and Xing by clicking View socialnetwork providers online’. A People pane will appear at the bottom of the screen showing previous conversations, Facebook status updates, shared calendar invites and more.

A Go to profile.live.com and sign in with your Windows Live ID. Click your name and select ‘Account settings’. Select Permissions and, under ‘Manage settings for all the apps and accounts you’ve connected’, click ‘Manage your accounts’. Click Edit next to the Facebook entry in the accounts list. Untick the ‘See Facebook friends and their updates’ and ‘Chat with Facebook friends’ boxes. This will stop your Facebook friends appearing in your contacts list. Alternatively, you can unlink your Facebook account by clicking  ‘Remove this connection completely’.

Facebook is often used as a method for logging into games. websites. apps and other services. The question is: do all the things you’ve allowed to access your Facebook account in the past still need access to it now? If you no longer play a game or use a website. you can revoke its permission to access your data. The fewer things that have access. the more secure and private your account.

Every so often. you should go to Facebook. click the menu button in the top-right corner and select Settings. Select Apps in the panel on the left and on the right. you'll see some of the apps that can access your account. Click the Show All button to reveal all of them. Move the mouse over an app to make a cross appear on the right. Click this cross to delete any app you no longer need.

On occasions, I come across some great videos on Facebook that I’d like to keep, but until recently I never knew you could download them to your PC. To do this, first open the Facebook page with the video you’d like to download. Next, replace the ‘www’ in your Facebook URL bar to ‘m’ (for example, https://www.facebook.com/xyz should now read https://m.facebook.com/xyz). Don’t be startled by the

changed Facebook layout in your browser what you’re doing here is accessing Facebook’s mobile website on your PC. Now navigate to the video you want and start playing it. While it’s playing, right-click the video, click ‘Save video as’, then rename the file and save it wherever you want.

It is hugely difficult to keep all personal information off the web, but thinking before you post or share something online always helps. as does using a pseudonym rather than your real name. However, this is easier said than done on Facebook, which requires you to use your real name.

we explained how to stop people tagging you in Facebook photos. but it's also worth adjusting your other privacy settings on the social network to prevent your information from appearing in Google search results.

On Facebook, click the down arrow in the top-right corner. choose Settings then select Privacy. In the ‘Who can see my stuff?’ section, ensure that ‘Who can see your future posts?’ is set to Friends.

Then click the Limit Past Posts option and choose Limit Old Posts to prevent anyone apart from your friends viewing content on your Timeline. Next. in the ‘Who can look me up?’ section, change the settings ‘who can look you up using the email address you provided?’ and ‘Who can look you up using the phone number you provided?’ to Friends (by default, it's Everyone), and ensure that ‘Do you want other search engines to link to your Timeline?' is set to Off. If you're really paranoid, you can click Use Activity Log in the ‘Who can see my stuff’ section and manually delete everything you've posted that you don't want people to see.

Facebook has a built-in tool that lets you schedule when a post is published. This is handy if you want your post to appear at a particular time of day for maximum impact. But there’s a catch it will only work with posts you make on a public page you’ve created, such as a fan or community page, or a page promoting your business. On your page, type your post as normal, then click the down arrow next to the Publish button and Select Schedule Post. Choose your date and time, then click Schedule. With personal posts on your own timeline, you can click the clock icon and select a date, but this will only let you backdate a post, not schedule it for the future. If you’re looking to schedule personal Facebook posts, we’d recommend using a free third-party tool, such as Hootsuite (bit.ly/hootandroid for Android, apple.co/hootios for iOS). Install the app or sign up at hootsuite.com, and connect your Facebook account. The AutoSchedule function works differently depending on the type of device you’re using but in Android, tap the Scheduled tab, write your post, then tap the calendar icon, set a date and time, and tap Schedule.

I recently read that Facebook now lets you nominate a ‘legacy contact’, someone to whom you bequeath access to your account after you pass away. That person will be able to write one post on your wall (announcing your passing) that will remain as a ‘pinned post’, respond to friend requests and update your profile info. However, they won’t able to read any private messages sent to you or act on your behalf (by liking other people’s posts logged in as you, for example). It’s easy to do, so I nominated my son. First, log into Facebook, click the small triangular dropdown menu at the top right, then click Settings. Now click Security at the top left, then the Edit link beside Legacy Contact. Type the name of the person you want, then click Add (see screenshot below). You’ll see a prewritten message informing them they have been nominated as your legacy contact. Click Send. If you’d prefer to delete your account after you pass away, tick the Account Deletion field at the bottom, then click Delete After Death.
