This problem is surprisingly common, but the good news is that there are ways to fix it. The first is to go to the Settings in the default messaging app and look for the Character encoding section. It is likely that it is set to GMS 7-bit, but changing it to Automatic should hopefully do the trick for you. We have tested this twice now and it worked both times, but if it does not work there are other options. So while we are convinced that our simple settings tweak will sort out your Emoji problem, please remember that there are other options available to you, some of which offer many benefits above and beyond just getting the stock messaging app to work properly. One final thing to check is that the receiving phone can display any Emojis you included. The situation has improved a great deal and most phones will be able to display Emojis, but some will show a black square because they do not support them. There is nothing you can do about this until the recipient upgrades their phone or software.
