Even though Lollipop is the latest version of Android, it does has been suffering a persistent memory leak that's causing problems for some Nexus users. This ColorFade Memory Leak prevents devices from releasing memory properly, so you eventually run out of space. Users have reported apps crashing, random refreshing and reloading of the homescreen, and a drop in overall performance. Although future releases should fix this bug, you can fix it now by downloading the Xposed for Lollipop framework and then grabbing an Xposed module that patches up the memory leak.

To take advantage of this fix, you’ll need a rooted device running Lollipop and a file explorer app such as ES File Explorer. Note that Xposed for Lollipop is currently in alpha, so it isn’t as stable as previous releases. This means it’s absolutely crucial that you create a full backup before attempting this fix.

To gauge whether your device is being affected by this bug. open your Settings. Tap Apps, then swipe to the Running screen. If the System is consuming large amounts of RAM then this is a Sign you're being affected by the bug.

Before you start, make a full backup just in case you encounter a bootloop. Then. go to bit.ly/xposed and download Xposed-arm ZIP and the Xposed Installer. Boot into your device's custom recovery. then flash the Xposed-arm ZIP file and reboot.

Use your ES File Explorer app to get to the Xposed Installer file. Tap this file. then follow the instructions to install. Once installed, launch the Xposed Installer app and tap ‘Download.’ Tap the little magnifying glass icon and perform a search for ‘Fix Lollipop Memory Leak'.

Tap the ‘Fix Lollipop Memory Leak’ module, read the information and right swipe to Versions. Tap Download and confirm that you want to install this module. Return to the main Xposed Installer screen. In the toolbar. tap Download>Modules from the dropdown menu. 

Select ‘Fix Lollipop Memory Leak'. You'll need to reboot before this module activates, so open the toolbar dropdown menu, tap Framework and Soft reboot. Once rebooted. you should notice less crashes and better overall performance.

If at any point you want to deactivate the module, open Xposed Installer and tap Modules to see installed modules. Deselect ‘Fix Lollipop Memory Leak'. Then open the dropdown menu, select Framework and tap Soft reboot.
