How To Watch live maps of transport systems
bit.ly/1ePoA2s Each of the coloured dots in this screen grab is a bus, tram or train making its way through New York. It’s one of the busiest cities included in this wonderful map, which shows the routes used by 249 transport systems around the world. In most of the cities, the dots don’t move in real time but are based on each city’s “static schedule data” (tech-speak for timetables). For that special real-time info, you’ll need to zoom into San Francisco and the Netherlands. But whether live or not, the maps are oddly mesmerising, and particularly therapeutic to watch after you’ve endured a journey into work on a packed train.

Click the All Feeds button at the top to see a world map showing which cities you can zoom into. These include Paris, Rome, Mexico City, Sydney, and dozens in Germany (the map was made by a Swiss-German IT company and the University of Freiburg). Hopefully, UK cities will be added soon.
