How To Share files with AirDrop in your iPhone

When it comes to sharing files be it photos, contacts, Passbook passes or just about anything else you’re faced with an abundance of options. Since the early days of iOS, Apple has gradually increased the amount of sharing services available. Along with more traditional options such as email and iMessage, there are a slew of social networks available to share your stuff to. The problem with all these methods, though, is that they take a little while to set up. Fortunately, iOS 7 brings with it a new sharing option known as AirDrop.

Although AirDrop has been available on the Mac for some time, it’s brand new to the iPhone. Using a combination of Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, AirDrop lets you quickly send files to nearby compatible iOS devices. It’s simple and incredibly fast. To make the most of AirDrop, you’ll need to be using an iPhone running iOS 7 and be signed into your iCloud account. You’ll also need to have another device within close proximity to share to. Select and share
Head into the Photos app and select an image. From there, hit the share icon to bring up the
sharing menu for a few more options, including AirDrop itself.

Tap the avatar
Tap on the avatar of the device you want to send your photo to. This will then display as ‘Waiting…’ while a connection is made with the other AirDrop-enabled device.

Watch it send
When the device you’re AirDropping your photo to accepts the transfer, you’ll see its progress in
the form of a familiar loading bar around the recipient’s avatar.

Not just photos
AirDrop isn’t just for images; you can send contact details, Passbook passes, videos and more. Look for the AirDrop option in the sharing menu of whatever you’re trying to send.

Accept or decline
When you receive an item that’s been sent via AirDrop, you’ll be shown a preview of it and given the option to accept or decline the name of the sender is also included.

An instant transfer
Should you choose to accept the AirDrop request, the transfer speeds are fast and you’ll almost instantly be taken to the file that you’ve received in its default app.
