How To Backup your Outlook messages

Your email messages are among the most valuable and sensitive documents on your computer. Online account details, receipts and family addresses are all likely to be included in your email archive, so it’s vital that you keep it backed up securely.

You can back up your Outlook messages manually as a PST file (click File, Data File Management, Data Files, Personal Folders, ‘Send to’), or download Microsoft’s Personal Folders Backup tool (www.microsoft.com/downloads) to do the job for you. Both these Microsoft methods are free but slow, so if you have a lot of Outlook data to back up, look at ABF’s Outlook Backup (www.outlookbackup.com). It costs $39.95 (about £24). but we think this is a price worth paying for fast, simple, secure backups and various built-in tools for restoring all your Outlook data on any PC.

Outlook Backup’s three-step wizard lets you choose ‘What to Back Up’, ‘Where to Back Up’ and ‘Go’ to save. You can back up a whole range of Outlook data including emails, contacts, calendar entries, tasks, notes, RSS feeds, settings and even your Internet Explorer Favorites, and you can back up to various locations including a cloud sync folder, a hard drive (including external drives and partitions), and a removable device or CD/ DVD, using the program’s built-in burning tool. All your backups are encrypted to keep them safe from prying eyes. and you can password-protect them for| extra security.
