Some Windows 8 users have suffered from the Desktop search function crashing or not showing results. Microsoft has created a Fix It tool to solve this bit.ly/win8searchfix.
If this doesn’t work, hit the Win+R key and type regedit into the box. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ Explorer\Advanced. Find and right-click Start_SearchFiles and select Modify. Change the Value data number to O and click OK. Repeat the process, but this time change the value to 2, then restart your computer.
